GIS

What is GIS?

GIS is a technology that manages, analyses and disseminates geographic knowledge.

GIS links location to information (such as water quality monitoring sites within a catchment, habitat protected areas within a country or shellfish waters within a country) and layers that information to give you a better understanding of how it all interrelates (for example, location of sewage treatment works and intensive farming units layered with water quality failures). Different "layers" can be selected according to the purpose of the exercise.
